A Major North American Insurance Company
A major North American Insurance company, having completed its Home Office Complex buildings which were built to all current Fire and Life-Safety Codes, set about to ensure greater safety egress to all building occupants. Following several meetings with Johnsonite and learning about its Safe-T-First Photoluminescent Low-Location Egress Routing System, the company decided to install that system on every stair tread, handrail and floor landing in all exit stairwells in the entire building complex. Now, in the event of smoke or blackout due to power failure, all exit routes are plainly and clearly identified, ensuring safe egress from the building to outside by all occupants. This system is in addition to the mandated code-required safety systems that were installed and provides added reassurance that they have gone the extra mile in providing state-of-the-art low-location egress routing system for their employees and tenants.

Customer Quote:

"Everything this company does, from investment to insurance, they like to be leaders. The same with Safety and Security."

"We're one step ahead on safety, should the situation arise. One never knows when you're going to be faced with a situation as happened in New York or Oklahoma in recent years. We certainly hope we don't have to face that scenario. If there is something else that comes along where we can enhance what we have, we'll definitely look at it."

"We like to be one of the leaders in safety. Everything we do, we try to make it as safe as possible for the tenants in the building, whether it be evacuation, whether it's looking after the sidewalks; any aspect of safety we can possibly produce, you might say we try to do it."

"The Building Code and the Fire Protection Code require us to have a Fire Plan. The building does not open until the Fire Plan is in place. The one established for here was used as a model for other buildings in the downtown area. As we go forward, we always try to make sure that, in the event of an emergency, we have all the proper facilities in place to assist anybody who has to evacuate the building. If there is something that is beyond Code or is not necessarily required by Code, and we can add it to the building, as we have done, then we like to do that."

"The Fire Code and Building Code are just minimum standards. Since we are a first-class building, we want to stay not only on top of that, but we also want to further enhance the class of the building, and safety and security is just one part of that."

"The appearance of the stairwells has been enhanced with the addition of the photoluminescent elements."

"The actual cost of maintaining the photoluminescent elements is nothing. There is virtually no additional maintenance required at all."

"The tenants who are now aware of the photoluminescent system are very happy and feel much more secure in the event of an emergency."
