Shedding new light on safety...

Evacuating a building in daylight is rarely a problem, but evacuating a building in dark or smoke-filled conditions can be chaotic. When emergency exit routes are no longer visible, people become disoriented and panic. In these situations, the potential for injury and even death due to slips, falls and other injuries is significantly increased. Johnsonite's Safe-T-First System helps provide an advanced measure of safety to assist occupants to evacuate a building during periods of sudden darkness.

Traditional emergency lighting systems (such as exit signs) require electrical or battery power. Exit signs are typically mounted above doorways or suspended from ceilings. As we all know, smoke rises and typically blankets the ceiling area and obscures exit signage. These systems require regular maintenance and are subject to human error. They are not fail-safe. Therefore, these code-required emergency systems may not perform in an emergency situation, nor are they easily integrated into the landscape of the interior design.
