Life-safety
costs are those associated with compliance to building regulations
required by federal (OSHA), state, provencial and municipal laws
to maintain and operate the facility. These include safety equipment,
fire and egress requirements such as signage, exit doors and building
alarm/strobes, mandated training, nurses, doctors and emergency
medical technicians.
As
you will see from these charts, the amount spent on life-safety
costs is relatively small. The median facility spent $0.25 per
rentable square foot. The figures are from the results from the
survey of over 190 companies that participated in the 1997 IFMA
Research Report #18.
