Material Safety Data Sheets According to the Hazard Communication Standard of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, MSDSs are required for all hazardous chemicals; however, the Standard specifically exempts all "Articles" from this requirement [29 CRF 1910.1200(b)(5)(IV)]. "Article" by definition of the Standard, is a manufactured item which is formed to a specific shape or design during the manufacture; which has end-use functions dependent on its shape or design; and which does not release a hazardous chemical under normal conditions of use. We wish to advise you that all of Johnsonite's Rubber Tile, ComforTech Rubber Sheet Flooring, Rubber and Vinyl Stair Treads and Nosings; TightLock, Standard, and Vent Cove Wall Base; Terra-Turf Rubber Tile, Resilient Mouldings and all other extruded or molded flooring products and accessories are "Articles" according to the above definition, and therefore are exempt from the MSDS requirements. In addition, all of Johnsonite's extruded and molded flooring products and accessories are not reportable under SARA III, Sections 311 thru 313. The Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act exempts substances present as a solid in any manufactured item, to the extent exposure of the substance does not occur under normal conditions of use. Material Safety Data Sheets are required, under the Hazard Communication Standard of OSHA, for Johnsonite Adhesives and are located in the "Adhesive MSDS" section of this manual. Should you require additional information or clarification regarding this subject, please contact Johnsonite's Technical Department at 1-800-899-8916. Revision 4, Released August, 1999 |
